Naves del Español take over from Teatro Fernán Gómez and open their doors for the first time to the Madrid Choreography Competition, which is celebrating with this edition twenty-six years presenting the latest trends in contemporary dance.
Created in 1987 by Laura Kumin and Margaret Jova and directed by Kumin since 2001, this competition is a yearly event that servces as a platform within Spain and on an international level for new work by Spanish choreographers, regardless of their current place of residence, and international choreographers established in Spain.  Its mission is check the pulse of Spain's latest choreographic creations and new talent and share them with the world.
The public, an international jury, a youth jury (a new initiative for 2012) and an extensive network of collaborators provide a vital boost to new creators of contemporary dance.  Likewise, with the dance/journalism project "Palabras en Movimiento" [Words in Movement], a dialogue is formed between up-and-coming journalists, dancers and choreographers, which, additionally, has produced new writings on the form.
Paso a 2 Choreographic Platform Cultural Association / Madrid Choreography Competition was the 2011 recipient of the Premio MAX in New Trends in recognition of its contribution to the development and dissemination of contemporary Spanish choreographic creation, and of its commitment to promising new talent.

See above video "ABOUT THE COMPETITION" by Paso a 2/Choreographic Platform, where some previous winners of the competition share their own opinions about the prize's impact on them as choreographers.
