FOOTBALL IS GOD
Offside Festival
Institution
This documentary explores the close relationship between faith and football, following three supporters of the legendary Club Atlético Boca Juniors from Buenos Aires. Hernán is an intellectual torn between reason and his passion for Boca, a struggle that threatens to destroy him. Pablo is a working class man who believes that Diego Maradona is a god, and his main mission in life is to meet his idol. ‘La Tía’ (Auntie) is an eccentric elderly lady. She views the Boca players as her children, especially Martín Palermo, who she pursues in order to give him a special birthday present: a pair of boxer shorts. Football Is God is a film about football, but also about faith, passion and the need to be part of something greater than oneself.
Offside Festival is an event featuring football documentaries. The festival advocates football not only as a sport, but also as a social and cultural phenomenon. Football is an expression of human greatness, and the documentaries that have been selected depict human stories that illustrate the greatness of football. After an initial run in Barcelona from 6 to 8 June, on 19 September it's game on in Madrid. This edition of the festival is somewhat smaller (screening the films The Beautiful Game and Football Is God), but we hope it will be a whistle signalling many more matches to come.
